Християнската музикална традиция в България е с корени още преди утвърждаването на християнството като официална държавна религия (865 г.). Има сведения, че през ІV в. в Сердика (днешна София) е свикан църковен християнски събор. Предполага се, че богослужебните песнопения са се отличавали от византийската църковна музика.
